ABOUT ME

Hello!  I'm a TV producer-turned-PR consultant-turned-blogger who lives in Saint Paul with my husband and two young daughters.

I grew up in the Twin Cities and moved east after graduating from the University of St. Thomas in 1997 with journalism and music degrees.  I was an investigative reporter and producer at various local and national TV news outlets in Washington, D.C., NYC and North Carolina.  I moved back to Minnesota in 2001, where I covered politics for a local TV station during Gov. Jesse Ventura's term.

My journalism career was relatively short but action-packed: I worked undercover many times with hidden cameras to expose bad businesses and other corruption, met the Dalai Lama(!), flew a plane (I'm not licensed, shhh), met Harry Belafonte(!!), product tested practically every As Seen On TV item circa 2000, and the list goes on.  It was a fascinating and exhilarating and exhausting career, and one that I was eventually ready to exchange for a better personal life.

I went to work briefly at my alma mater from 2001-03 doing communications and admissions.  My mother became sick with cancer at this time and it was important to be close to home. The best part of this job, however, was meeting my future husband. We were co-workers and friends and partners in darts for years before we actually dated.  It was awesome (and still is.)

Unbeknownst to me, by 2003 I was keenly qualified to advise others about dealing with media as a public relations consultant.  I joined a terrific group of folks at a small public relations and public affairs agency in town and worked there for seven years, providing perspective and strategic insight to great clients on a variety of topics.  I produced four television documentaries for clients as well; the most meaningful one for me was about tobacco addiction.

In late 2010 I was expecting the birth of my first daughter and felt a strong pull toward all things new.  I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my career "path" (I really have never known what I'm doing here), but I knew that the time was right to leave the agency, welcome our baby, and take some time to figure things out again.  I love being a mother.  I knew that I would.  I now have two beautiful daughters, ages nine and seven, who are bright and happy and funny and so very smart.  I'm in awe watching them discover their world.

I'm a writer, a consultant, a musician, I sew, I bake, I tackle home improvement projects, I raise two little kids, I pay attention to what's going on in my city and at our state capitol, I love to create, and I really love discovering cool new things.

Thanks for stopping by -- please come again!
